GROW: New Moon Planting

For Christmas I was gifted with a sensational growing tray for my start-up garden! It has lots of little spaces for planting my seeds, a nice big domed lid so that I have (a little more) control over the growing conditions of my seedlings, and air vents to (help) adjust the humidity!

How much Mother Nature actually allows me to temper her dramatic swings up here in the tropics is yet to be seen!

I have been eager to plant my seeds and get my garden up and fruiting, however some previous failures Continue reading

MAKE: Fresh Frothy Juice!!

MMMMM….. There is nothing quite like it!!

This morning I’m sitting with organic carrot and apple juice!!! YUM!!!! The colour is what gets me! As if the juice itself wasn’t full enough of goodness on its own, I think the VIBRANCY radiating from this glass is streaming in some sacral chakra cleansing too!!!

Just a few of moments ago I thought I may have lost the juicer too, it was looking like it could have been ‘all over red rover’ with a chopping board full of fruit! An incorrectly seated mechanism made a hell of a noise, created a bit of smoke and spat bits of plastic at me… not pretty! But we’re good now! Back in business! PHEW!!

So my kitchen has recently had a major Continue reading

GROW: Somehow Their Grass Is Always Greener…

Now I’m starting to wonder if it’s just me or if my plants have a preference for living over at the neighbours?!?!

Maybe that’s going a little too far, after all I have had my share of successful seeds sprouting. The problem was that it didn’t get much further than that due to my absence! (And little baby plants don’t like absence any more than little baby people I’ve found!!). So when I left this time I left my little baby plants in the very capable green-tipped hands Continue reading

SOURCE: Would A Mango By Any Other Name….

….Shakespeare (sort of). Well, possibly not if you look into it. I never thought to question old Shakespeare, well not his validity anyway. Some questions around his use of language would have been helpful during high school, but none the less, I figured they were his words. I was most unfortunately advised by family this past Christmas that Shakespeare could have in fact been a front for the ‘real’ author of these tragedies, a nobleman of sorts, for which writing at the time was not a seen as an appropriate hobby. (What rock have I been hiding under???) Shame really. I hear Shakespeare himself was a great producer, but truth be told I never saw his plays!

The crying shame in point here however is the mango. The iconic Australian mango. Continue reading

CELEBRATE: Meal One, Two Thousand & Twelve.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Following on from an amazing year in 2011~ the ever more exciting, highly anticipated, widely talked about, pondered, researched, theorised and debated year of 2012 is now upon us!!!

According to some it’s the year to end all years (in a very literal sense), but only time will tell what is to become of our watery planet! Personally I’m VERY excited by all of the possibilities and the potential that we have as a family (a really big universal planet earth family!!).

Consciousness is definitely shifting and I believe that all of these shifts are moving us towards a greater version of everything! Sometimes it’s difficult to see the forest through the trees, but it’s definitely out there!! WOOP!!!!

I have a whole bunch of stories I’d love to share Continue reading

MAKE: JAMMING IT UP!!!

I think you can tell a lot about a person by the contents of their fridge. I guess that also depends on whether they’ve done the shopping recently or not, but nevertheless when I am in someones home I have a compulsive tendency (and a sometimes insatiable urge) to open and peruse the contents of their food life!!

So on my recent trip to England, and after becoming sufficiently acquainted with my boyfriends beautiful family (which didn’t take very long!!!) I was grateful to be delving into a new world of deliciousness!

I love that there seems to be common staples throughout many kitchens, yet all with regional variations. Continue reading

BNE: Digging for Platinum, but I’ll take Gold…

So Brisbane airport…… Hmmmm.

The last time I wrote about Brisbane airport was from the comfortable confines of the Gold Star Lounge. The airport itself is much less than impressive.

I’m on route (via the Cape) to London. I started in Cairns, am now in Brisbane, next is Melbourne, then a stop-over in Hong Kong, which I was (blissfully) unaware of until I checked in this morning, before I can finally board the plane that will touch down at my final destination, London Heathrow. And right now the only thing standing between me and the pleasurable symphony of silent movement and hushed conversations behind those glass panels Continue reading

LIVE: Travelling Gardener, Happy Garden.

So in a wicked twist of dejavu I find myself again looking down the runway, another trip away fast approaching; and the innocent faces of my seedlings as they peer through sleepy eyes, opening them to the light as they look up at me for the first time. Their lives now precariously dependant upon my ability to read their needs; to water, feed, love, care and tend to their fragile systems… at least until they are a little bit stronger!

The last time I attempted “prepared self-sufficiency” the results were dismal. Rather than flourish in the cool, moist, protected environs of the vacated bath tub my ‘plant-lettes’ sought growth of a different type; the fuzzy, Continue reading

GROW: Go Basil Go!

I think the basil is liking the new potting arrangement!! And check out my apple seed shooting for the sky in the background!! That little apple seedling has sprouted from a  seed I saved from a biodynamic apple I was eating a while back!! Yummy way to recycle food!!!
