JOY: Flossing for Blogs!!!


So the radical habit forming enthusiasm has been given a HUGE boost this week with the arrival of my inspiring, energetic, and fabulously healthy sister Christie! She has come to visit from Sydney for a week and has brought all of her raw, vegan, nutrition, yoga, exercise energy with her! Double YAY!

This week has been heavenly for my insides, green smoothies for breakfast, big dark green and colourful salads for lunch and dinner, I’ve made my brazil nut milk, have sprouting buckwheat in my fridge, have chia, goji, banana and black sapote parfait in my fridge as we speak, I made my first freestyle pumpkin soup last (inspired by the pumpkin in the kitchen and the sick flatmate!) Mmmm….. I’ve been exploring the organic side of Cairns too which has been wonderfully educational. I have a great organic grocer around the corner from my house – ‘Neil’s Organics’ (which I never gave enough gratitude for previously), have re-visited a delightful health store a few minutes away which also specialises in organics – ‘Where Your Health Matters’ (particularly creating weekly fruit and veg boxes), and found out that they now run a “Tuesday take-aways” service. Each week they email clients a menu of foods that will be made (with love, dedication, and organic raw ingredients!!!) and you can place your order as to how much you would like, and pick it up on Tuesday! PERFECT! NO wastage, keeping costs low, and LOVING Tuesday nights now!!

Renewing my interest in local produce, especially tropical fruit has been lovely. Watching Christie get SOOOO excited over black sapote is almost like watching a child play in the mud! HAHAHA, same colour too! Having someone else get out a yoga mat is great motivation to get out the other, and being so close to the water in such a flat area makes for wonderful daily walks! I feel wonderful and full of life!!

I’ve actually thought about blogging for the last few days, and if I had an internet connection that allowed multiple users I would have done it too…. (that in itself is exciting coz I have made the time), however in the mean time I’m pleased to announce that the second roll of floss is GONE! I think my radical habit forming just may be a winner here! Time will tell of course, if I can keep it up with just as much enthusiasm and energy I just might pull this healthy living thing off! IMAGINE THAT!!! Living my life the way I’ve always WANTED to!! What a crazy thought!!

So here are some bright, colourful, healthful and totally radiant pictures of the food that Christie has been preparing for me this week….. mmmmm….. A simple salad of tomatoes, beans and spinach that we enjoyed one night because we had started out eating a ridiculously hot papaya salad (tom sum – prepared by my favourite thai lady in town!), so we weren’t overly hungry, but needed to satisfy the bleeding taste buds and calm the chilli tummies!!

Green smoothie for breakfast with spinach, kale, banana, pineapple, lettuce, chia seeds, nashi pear, and topped with fresh banana slices… So filing and divinely rejuvenating first thing in the morning!!

What was going to be breakfast, got shelved for dessert and is now tomorrow’s breakfast (we have such a wonderful abundance of food!!) I can’t wait to eat this – it’s chia seeds soaked in the brazil nut milk that I made, layered with fresh banana, goji berries, black sapote, and cacao nibs! YUM YUM YUM!!!

And a couple of pictures of my latest food experiments….

My first nut milk trial. Hugely successful brazil nut milk!! I put in 1 cup of brazil nuts, 4 cups of filtered water, 3 medjool dates, and  a pinch of salt… blend it all up!! I strained it through my sieve (I don’t have a nut milk bag just yet and figured some ‘bits’ would just add a little bit of fibre!), and am LOVING the frothy, bubbly, light, fresh nutty taste!! Definitely going to be making more!!

And my first ever freestyle pumpkin soup! It’s made up of red onion, garlic, ginger and lotsa fresh pumpkin!! Christie and I demolished the entire pot tonight… we added some savoury yeast flakes, salt, chilli flakes and fresh parsley. Scrumdidlyumptious!! I am DEFINITELY going to be experimenting with more vege soups!!
